#latke discourse

In light of the success of my first latke poll, allow me to make some extremely low-brow latke topping suggestions (I do not necessarily endorse these, but I would try them if sufficiently bribed.)

Latke topping discourse is the only good discourse on this hellsite (affectionate AND derogatory)

🥔 on the hanukkah ask game!
Applesauce and sour cream mixed together. This is the only proper way to eat a latke.

Hi happy hannuka!!! My boyfriend is jewish and I am a goy, and I LOVE latkes (the cute part is that I'm southern so I fry his latkes for him because he is afraid of hot oil) anyway I'm here to beg hat in hand for any onion free latke recipes anybody may have as I have an unfortunate garlic and onion allergy preferably also gluten free as the bf is celiac!! Anyway thank you thank you I love this blog very much 💖
I cannot help you but I am sure someone here can

I serve on the side and dip. Many people dollop one on each of the latkes. Others dollop both on each latke. Whatever works for ya!

Had my goyische roommate over for Hanukkah tonight. We had latkes and lit candles and also had pork ramen cuz we don’t keep kosher and I like to cook. It was a wonderful time.
Truly, we need allies like her. And we have them. It’s good to remember that.

As far as I can tell, latkes are basically just a vehicle for discourse and toppings 🤔
Yes they are truly a metaphor for our people.

american-ashkenazi jewish food poll!
i had said in the tags of one of my other posts that a good way to break jewish stereotypes and antisemitism away from the current. political situation is to uplift diaspora jewish culture and so!! starting off with an american-ashkenazi food poll! i am american-ashkenazi and this is the food i ate growing up. some ashkenazi food is gross so this is the only good one (fwiw i dont support the israeli govt and if i see any support on my blog thats a block <3) (also if i see discourse in the comments ur speaking privileges are revoked.)

Having the latke topping discourse every single year is Ashkenormative and BORING.
They are fried potatoes. Eat them with whatever you want. There is no halacha. There is no kashrut. The Shulchan Aruch is silent on the matter. You are not off the derech if you want ketchup or labneh or lox and cream cheese or spicy mayo or grape jelly.
You don’t need to defend your choice, and you absolutely don’t need to argue with other people about their choice. The only food that’s your business is the food on your own plate.
Now who wants to talk about sfinj? Cassola? Bumuelos? Fritters? Loukoumades? Pollo fritto? Tostones? Croquettas?
It's that time of year again!
If you do something else, please share. If you combine your toppings, please share. If you think that ketchup is wrong, please share, so I can show my mother.

Could you share your cheese latke recipe? Unless this is a closely guarded family recipe situation and/or likely to cause Discourse about who knows the secret of the singular objectively correct cheese latke recipe. I know you'd be risking that sort of Discourse if you ask about the best latke recipe amongst the wrong (or right?) group of Ashkenazim.
Haha it's not a family secret, it's even googleable!
1 cup whole milk ricotta
3/4 cup flour
3 large eggs
2 tbsp granulated white sugar
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
make sure to use olive oil as the frying substance and you're good to go!
goes really well with a variety of toppings - I usually add more cheese (I'm whatever the opposite of lactose intolerant is), my spouse uses ketchup, but honey, jam, sour cream, maple syrup, and yogurt all work too! Just don't try applesauce - it doesn't work

"Israel has done nothing wrong" Might be a real kahanist
"I hope the mossad assassinated every hamasnik" CAN NOT a real person but what tankie thinks a (((zionist))) is like
"a boy can dream" what a tankie thinks a Jewish transmasc/cis man they dislike is like because they're all man hating baedells
"anyways ginger in latkes? latkes are jewish yes? how do you do fellow Jews"
are y'all even trying at this point?
NO real Jew tacks on latke discourse in their I/P vents to signal that they're totes Jewish you guys

The wonderful thing about being Jewish is that we encompass so many different people. For example, OP, who is objectively wrong

Okay so, idk if this is a hot take or not, but ketchup is the best latkes topping

We are a week and a half out from chanukah and I haven't seen nearly enough discourse.
Reblog with:
Favorite Hanukkah spelling
Favorite latke topping
Favorite tradition
And the thing other Jews do for Hanukkah that you just can't get onboard with.
For me, it's a tie between Janice and Honk
Solidly applesauce, but for the scorching hot take I'm going to say cranberry sauce is underrated
Sufganiyot. We have traditional donuts. How cool is that??
Hanukkah Harry/ Hanukkah trees. I know this is rich coming from the person with blue and white lights and garlands on my desk, but that's too goyische.
